The month of September witnessed two major events for the Canadian market: the presentation of the Montecristo Open Slam and the grand opening of La Casa del Habano in Edmonton.
On September 14, the renowned Habanos Specialist in Toronto, B. Sleuth & Statesman Inc., celebrated its 25th Anniversary and marked the arrival of the Montecristo Open Slam to the market. This lively and emotional event brought together around 100 Habano enthusiasts who enjoyed vibrant Cuban music, an exceptional gastronomic experience, and wonderful cigars.
The Montecristo Slam was warmly received by all attendees. This launch introduces the Idílicos vitola (52 ring gauge x 142 mm length), a completely new format within the Habanos portfolio, featuring a refreshed look for the Open Line. It is Totally Handmade with Long Filler, using wrapper, binder, and filler leaves sourced from the prestigious Vuelta Abajo region in Pinar del Río, Cuba.

Joining this celebration were two magnificent vitolas from the Habanos portfolio: the Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 3 (launched in 2024) and the iconic Romeo y Julieta Short Churchills. This selection gave attendees the opportunity to enjoy three of the most renowned global brands: Montecristo, Hoyo de Monterrey, and Romeo y Julieta.

A few days after this celebration, the Grand Opening of La Casa del Habano Edmonton took place, an event that stood out for its elegance. The franchise, which began operations in August 2025, brought together more than 60 Habano enthusiasts and distinguished guests, including Mayor Rod Frank of Strathcona County, Alberta, as well as representatives from Havana House Cigars and Tobacco Merchants Ltd., the exclusive distributor of Habanos in the Canadian market, and Primero Cigar Imports, sub-distributor for the West Coast.

Guests enjoyed heartfelt speeches from the Mayor of Strathcona, the proud franchise owners, and Francisco Rojas, Master of the Habanos Academy, who presented the Bolívar New Gold Medal vitola (48 ring gauge x 165 mm length) a cigar exclusively crafted for the La Casa del Habano network. It is Totally Handmade with Long Filler, using wrapper, binder, and filler leaves from the prestigious Vuelta Abajo region in Pinar del Río, Cuba.

The event’s atmosphere was exceptional, with captivating musical performances, cocktails made with Cuban rums, and a rich culinary offering that included a sophisticated cake featuring the La Casa del Habano logo delighting all attendees.

With established franchises in Windsor, Ontario, and now Edmonton, Alberta, La Casa del Habano continues to expand across Canada, offering exceptional products and services to the most discerning cigar lovers—where Cuban culture, tradition, and exclusivity intertwine as the cornerstones of the La Casa del Habano experience.
